Japan’s leading business lobby, Keidanren, reportedly called for renewed government efforts to boost the contents industry abroad, particularly anime and manga, to spur economic growth. Keidanren officials warned that Japan could lose its edge to countries like South Korea, which have been investing in their own content markets. The April 7, 2023 proposal also signalled interest in drawing foreign talent to push the content industry forward.
